After Luz overhears Eda telling Lilith she refuses to take more dangerous jobs with greater reward for fear that they might not complete the job and to get Luz food she can eat, she talks King into joining her in the hunt for the selkidomus. As King and Luz enjoy their time at sea, King soon discovers the ship they are on belongs to the Emperor's Coven. He tries to warn Luz, but is captured by the Golden Guard, who threatens to kill King if Luz and Eda—who attempted to rob the ship—does not return with a selkidomus body. As the Golden Guard lifts the sheet covering King's cage, Eda and Luz pretend to slay the selkidomus and he is freed.

King feels bad about his predicament, and helps Luz and Eda show the Collector how the three of them bonded. When Luz is killed by Belos, a grief-stricken King protects the Collector from Belos's second attempt in destroying him, and briefly stops his attack when a remorseful Collector apologizes for everything. King does not have much interaction with Gus until "Really Small Problems", where it is shown that he is spiteful over the fact that Luz pays less attention to him because of Gus and Willow. After freeing them, Luz, Eda, and King happily embrace each other, and she introduces them to Stringbean. Upon hearing this, her mother becomes distraught and thinks she drove Luz away. As Luz apologizes, she is being pulled away and Camilla makes her promise to stay in the Human Realm. Luz combines the fire and ice glyphs with Sleeping Nettles to knock out Kikimora, and she hands the Golden Guard his staff back. After they knock out the dragon and defeat Kikimora, Luz goes to the palismen as the Golden Guard attempt to attack, but changes his mind before leaving and reveals his name is Hunter.
He wears a red collar with a round light golden tag and a dinosaur like skull with horns (one broken, which is later glued back on in "Echoes of the Past") covering his face. King is also shown to be lazy, often lying around the house napping instead of working, and at times must be forced or blackmailed to do work, much to his annoyance. It is implied that him trying to regain his kingly status might be so that he can have an excuse to get out of doing menial labor. Later in the episode, it is revealed that King was hatched from an egg and the creature was trying to protect him from intruders.
Luz explains to her that she needs to have something in mind, and draws a proper one on the ground, summoning much prettier flowers. Amity then forms a balloon with abomination goo, and Luz ties the flowers around the string, letting them fly away with the balloon in the wind. Amity wonders if they'll reach the Human Realm, and while Luz is doubtful, she remarks that it's something nice to think about. The Collector takes King as his personal playmate while turning most of the Boiling Isles' residents into puppets. Showing sympathy for him, they take him on a tour of the Boiling Isles to the sites of past adventures so they can help him understand true friendship.
